Nikkah Requirements and Process
Marriage in Islam is a sacred covenant and a social necessity. We are honored to facilitate this blessed union. Below are the basic requirements to arrange a Nikkah ceremony at our mosque. Please note that the mosque's Imam will follow the Hanafi school of thought for contract validity unless otherwise requested and agreed upon.
Essential Requirements for Validity (Rukn)
- **Consent (Ijab and Qabul):** The prospective bride and groom must both express their consent freely and unequivocally.
- **Wali (Guardian):** The bride must have a *Wali* (legal guardian, usually her father) present to represent her in the contract (required by most schools of thought, and highly recommended).
- **Two Muslim Witnesses:** Two sane, adult, and practicing Muslim men must be present to witness the Nikkah ceremony.
- **Mahr (Dowry):** The groom must present or promise *Mahr* (dowry) to the bride. The amount is agreed upon before the ceremony.
- **Valid ID/Passport:** Photo identification is required for all parties (including the Wali and witnesses).
The Process and Legal Status

Step 2: Consultation: A mandatory consultation will be scheduled with the Imam to discuss the religious responsibilities, ensure all requirements (especially the Mahr and Wali) are met, and set expectations.
Step 3: Ceremony: The Nikkah is performed at the mosque, following the agreed-upon details. The mosque provides a religious certificate.
